Only 22.7% did not accept that feeling tired had such substantial impacts on their duties and that they could still deliver as expected. The concern becomes more severe as 46.5% of those surveyed had to take sick days off work because they were too tired. Cumulatively, this means that companies are increasingly bearing the brunt of employee tiredness under the tag of being sick.

The survey also included a sleep study as the researchers sought to know how the relationship between sleeping patterns and tiredness on the job. The result was that the average American adult has poor sleeping habits, having less than the professionally recommended seven to eight hours of sleep. From the studies, 33.1% of adult workers sleep after 11 PM, and 31.3% sleep between 10 and 11 PM. On the other hand, the wake-up time for 56.5% of those surveyed was between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM, while 11.6% wake up at 4:30 AM. This shows that more on workdays, more people get to bed late and wake up early and consequently do not have sufficient rest. At a time when according to the survey 35.9% of American workers are spending more than eight hours at work, this means having to bear with longer days.

As the traditional 40 hours of work per week becomes a far-fetched dream for most workers today, there is a need to ensure that the longer workdays are manageable.
